Our house…

Abbeyfield (Irvine & District) Society Ltd, 1 Kilwinning Road, Irvine was originally opened in 1975 by members of the Rotary Club of Irvine as a supportive house with 7 bedrooms.  It continued as such until the Executive Committee decided in 1995 that it was no longer viable as a small unit.  There was an obvious need for a residential home in the town so construction of a 2-storey extension providing 22 en-suite bedrooms was embarked upon.  Finance was provided by Scottish Homes and the new building was opened in September 1997. In 2003 it became apparent that the home needed to provide Nursing Care alongside Residential Care. This would allow residents to continue to live at Abbeyfield when their care needs increased. A further 4 bedrooms were added in 2006. A lounge extension was also added in 2010 allowing for a “quiet area” and an enclosed garden deck area. The house can accommodate 26 residents with a staff of 57.

The house is administered by an Executive Committee some of whom remain Rotary members.  The committee consists of a Chairperson, Treasurer and Secretary along with 10 committee members; each has been chosen for their knowledge and experience.

Abbeyfield House, Irvine is a 2-storey extended family home with beautiful period features throughout the house. There has been a recent extension with a single floor wing added to the front of the building which allows us to accommodate a total of 26 residents comfortably in the home, all rooms having en-suite facilities.

We have created an enclosed decked garden area, available for all residents who wish to tend and do some gardening or simply enjoy the outdoors securely alone, or with family and friends. There is an in-house relaxing sensory room complete with light features and peaceful sounds, also available for those who perhaps enjoy some quiet alone time.

We are located on Kilwinning Road Irvine, close to the Marress traffic lights and being situated so central to the town we aim to encourage our residents to stay a part of their local community as much as they can by having outings into town, going for meals, even participating in local events like the Marymass festival.

Keeping minds active we have a dedicated activities team encouraging residential pursuit of personal hobbies within the house and other daily in-house activities.  We encourage and aim to please with regards to resident personal choice whenever possible with developing visual communications to aid in meal selection and other everyday decisions.  We cater to ensure the happy well being of the individual.

Our aim here at Abbeyfield Irvine is to provide physical and emotional support in a family atmosphere and for residents to be cared for in all aspects of personal care. With a team of 57 fully trained nursing and residential care staff, as well as close links to other healthcare facilitators, GPs, Dentists, Chiropodists and other specialist medics, along with a visiting Hairdresser, we strive to provide 24/7 care and independence to all our residents.
